Día de los Muertos at Dragon Café in the City

Join us for a special, extended, day of celebration and remembrance this Wellness Wednesday, as we embrace Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

12:00 - 18:30/ Bring photos, favourite foods or items of the person(s) you are remembering to add to our communal altar (known as an ofrenda or altare). You can also light a candle

12:00 - 15:00/ De-stress in your lunch break with a free 15-minute massage (booking opens in the library from 11:45am on the day)

12:30 - 13:15/ Lunch & Learn - Join this workshop about end of life care to find out more about how to make this important time more peaceful, joyful and comfortable

13:30 - 15:30 & 16:30 - 18:30/ Make Day of the Dead decorations, with Li from Dragon Café and Nayeli from the QMUL Mexican Society, to take home or add to the communal altar. We' will have materials for making sugar skulls, papel picado (perforated paper), and marigolds. Each decoration takes less than 30 minutes to make so drop in for a quick crafting session

14:00 - 15:00 & 16:30 - 17:30/ Share fond memories, stories of awe, and anecdotes about those we are remembering in this group activity with Perla from the QMUL Mexican Society

16:30 - 17:00/ A selection of food and drinks (non-alcoholic), including traditional Mexican favourites, are available whilst you have the opportunity to network with faces old and new

17:30 - 18:30/ A look at the 'Western' view of death and bereavement in comparison with the beliefs found in the Día de los Muertos celebration. Experience the sharing of stories with trained bereavement therapist Yasmin

18:45 - 20:30/ Come and watch the 'Book of Life' for our first 'late night' movie session at Dragon Café in the City. Please be aware that seats are free and limited
